K-8 Chromebook Overview
K-8 Chromebook Overview
Chromebooks are an essential part of daily learning for students in grades K–8. These devices allow students to access educational programs, classroom assignments, and digital resources that support instruction across all subject areas. Chromebooks also help students develop important technology and digital citizenship skills, such as organization, responsible online behavior, and collaboration.
By using Chromebooks as part of everyday instruction, CCSL ensures that students are engaged, supported, and prepared for future learning in a technology-rich world. Our goal is to partner with families to help students use technology safely, responsibly, and effectively as a tool for academic growth.
-
The purpose of using school-issued devices at CCSL is twofold:
-
Support Learning and Technology Skills – Chromebooks help students develop essential skills that enhance their education and prepare them to become more technology-savvy as the world continues to advance. Integrating these devices into daily learning allows students to access digital resources, collaborate with peers, and engage in innovative learning experiences.
-
Ensure Safety and Responsible Use – When students are assigned and use school-issued devices, CCSL provides a safe and monitored online environment. All devices are equipped with Linewize, a web filtering system that allows IT staff and administrators to:
-
Monitor student search activity daily
-
Track any concerning online behavior
-
Block inappropriate or harmful web content
-
By combining educational support with online safety, school-issued devices help students learn responsibly while protecting them in the digital world.

Each student at CCSL is required to complete the school’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and Technology Agreement Sheet. It is essential that both students and parents fully complete these documents, as they allow students to use school-issued devices—an important part of daily learning and academic success.
Existing students do not need to complete these forms each year. Parents of new students, including those who enroll mid-year, will receive the documents electronically via email. To ensure timely delivery, please confirm that the Registrar’s office has your most up-to-date email address on file.
Once the forms have been completed, students will have access to their school devices. The IT Department may contact families at any time to request updated or revised documents, which must be completed to ensure that students can continue using their devices without interruption.
-
Every classroom is equipped with a Chromebook cart, ensuring that all students in grades K–8 have access to a 1:1 device. At the beginning of the school year, each student is assigned a specific Chromebook by their homeroom teacher. This assigned device will be used by the student throughout the school day for instructional purposes and will remain the student’s assigned device for the entire school year.
-
Unless prior approval is granted, all K–8 student Chromebooks must be returned to the homeroom Chromebook cart at the end of each school day. Returning devices daily ensures that Chromebooks are fully charged, properly secured, and protected from damage. This practice also guarantees that devices remain accessible and ready for student use each day, allowing technology to continue supporting learning and educational growth without interruption.
-
At CCSL, we understand that accidents happen, and Chromebooks may get damaged for various reasons. It is the student’s responsibility to report any damages or if their assigned Chromebook is lost or missing.
To help keep families informed, CCSL sends monthly email reminders to parents if a student’s device has been reported with any of the following:
