French is a new World Language that Collegiate began offering in 2023. We are excited to offer a new foreign language to our students and allow them to experience a whole new culture.

French is offered in two parts, French I and French II. French l is a beginner course that introduces the French language and culture. French ll is offered to students who have completed French l and builds on what they learned in the previous course.

French 1: French 1 is a year-long course to discover the language, geography, and cultures of la Francophonie.  In this course, students will be communicating by speaking, reading, writing, and listening. This course will be taught in both English & French.

Topics:  Greetings, introductions, school, family, travel, hobbies, shopping, directions, food, and holidays and traditions among the Francophonie countries. 

French 2: French 2 is a year-long course to continue to learn the language, geography, and cultures of la Francophonie. This course will be literature-based where students will learn vocabulary, grammar, and culture as well as develop their communication skills through reading, speaking, listening, and writing about articles, short stories, and novels. The first novel that will be read is Le Petit Prince.   This course will be taught mostly in French. 

Topics:  Music from French-speaking countries, French slang, celebrations from French-speaking countries, Winter celebrations, French Canada, Senegal, Vietnam, and Morocco.
