Per MIAA rule 56.4, any student/athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent shall be immediately removed from practice or competition. The student/athlete must be impact tested within 72 hours of the injury and shall not return to play until cleared by an appropriate health care professional. Student-athletes who sustain a concussion must be symptom free for at least 24 hours as well as have physician clearance (in the form of a note given to the CCSL nursing staff). The first three days of practice and play are supervised by the CCSL Athletic Department staff.
These guidelines, including the gradual return to play progression cannot be overridden by the coaching staff or a note from a parent or the student-athlete’s personal physician.
